Some Tallest Living People in the World

These people are tall, really taller then average people. As a matter of fact they are the tallest living people on the planet earth. Some of these are proven, some just claimed not varified yet. Lets meet some giant people of the world!

Leonid Stadnyk

Leonid Stadnyk, born in 1971 in Zhytomyr Oblast Ukrainian, is the world's tallest living man according to Guinness World Records 2008. Mr Stadnyk at 2.59m, replaces Bao Xishun, a native of Inner Mongolia in China who stands 2.36 m. He is a certified veterinarian and veterinary surgeon and lives with his mother in the village of Podolyantsi, Ukraine. Leonid Stadnyk's excessive growth began after brain surgery when he was 12 years old. He developed a pituitary gland tumor which caused the gland to secrete large amounts of growth hormone, resulting in what doctors describe as acromegalic gigantism.

In the past, Stadnyk refused to be measured and consequently denied the GWR recognition. In 2007, the Guinness World Records was permitted to take height measurements, thereby officially recognizing Stadnyk as the world's tallest man.

Bao Xishun (Xi Shun)

Bao Xishun, also known as Xi Shun or "The Mast", born in 1951 is a herdsman from Inner Mongolia, China. Bao was formerly recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest living man, until August 7, 2007. Bao Xishun was born in Inner Mongolia. Measured at 2.361 metres (7 ft 8.95 in) tall at the Chifeng City Hospital, Bao Xishun has no growth disorder like gigantism[citation needed] — unlike the tallest man ever, Robert Wadlow, and the current tallest living man, Leonid Stadnyk.

Xi was normal height until age 16 when his height took off. Doctors who examined him in 2005 discovered no evidence of gigantism or acromegaly. See below for others who claim to be taller or close to.

Hussain Bisad

Hussain Bisad has the largest hand span of anyone alive. He is among the tallest men in the world, at 2.32 m (7 ft 7+1/2 in). He wear size 26 shoes and weighs 210 kg (462 lb). He fled Somalia after being shot, and has been granted asylum in Britain.

Tallness does not run in Hussain’s family, as his twin sister, Khardra, is just below the average height of women. Doctors are concerned that Hassain is suffering from a condition called pituitary giantism, that makes growth continue after most people stop developing. Expert in abnormal growth Professor Mike Besser, from Bart’s Hospital, Central London, said he probably has a tumour in the pituitary gland behind his eyes. He has a great shot at taking the title if he doesn't treat his pituitary disease. But chances are he won't live long if he doesn't treat it.

Sultan Kosen

Born in 1983 Sultan is a Turkish basketball player. He had a back problem which prevented him from standing totally straight. A technician of the Galatasaray found him in a small town near the border of Turkey and Iraq. He stood 242 cm tall. After his back operation, his height was recorded at 247 cm (Approx. 8 ft 1 in). He is, as of now, the tallest player in the history of basketball.

Ajaz Ahmed

Born in 1976 Ajaz is a Pakistani man claiming to be the world's tallest living person. He hails from Bakkhar village in Daryakhan, Punjab, and claims to be 253 centimeters (8 feet 4 inches) tall. He suffers from an orthopedic problem that afflicted his right leg after he underwent surgery for a hip-bone fracture.

Mounir Fourar

This Tunisian claims to be 8'5" and wears size 27 shoes.

Yao Defen, Tallest Woman in the World

Born 15 July 1972 in China Yao is the tallest female in the world confirmed by the Guiness Book of World Records. After 3 days of measuring (in the morning, afternoon, at midnight) it was confirmed that she is, generally, 7 feet 8 inches (233.6 cm) tall. She weights about 200 kg (440 lbs). Her gigantism is due to a tumor in her pituitary gland.
