It sounds easy, really is, to check pricing of a product to sell if its profitable. Just need some commonsense. Yet many do mistake in this.

After you get the wholesale price list from your prospective supplier, find out how much others are selling for that exact same item.

Some good places to check pricing:

Ebay.com

Amazon.com

Overstock.com

Walmart.com

Many people selling on these sites (except walmart) are suppliers. Since its very competitive there prices are lower there. You really have to make sure you are able to compete with those sellers there.

Your sell price should consist of these parts:

wholesale price

shipping cost (if you offer free shipping)

listing/success fees (if you sale on ebay/amazon etc where you have to pay for listing/success)

Operational costs (this could be hosting, office supplies etc)

Marketing expenses (marketing costs like ppc etc)

Based on this see how many percentage of profit you can make per product. If you make less then 25% profit, I would strongly recommend looking for some other supplier.

People sell their products in different ways. Some sell on their very own e-commerce website, some on shopping comparison sites, some on ebay, amazon etc.

Here is a short list of some major places you can sell your products. Remember this is not an elaborated talk on them.

Your E-Commerce Site
Although you can control the shopping experience and other aspects of your business, its really tough to market and make money. Specially it takes quite a bit of time and effort to get people come to your site and get used to shopping.

EBay
Largest marketplace of all. Your products would be visible to a huge ebay audience.

Amazon
Amazon is a great marketplace. Although not as big as eBay, it still a giant marketplace.

Google Base
Its free to use. You can upload your products and make them indexed on Google for people to search.

Shopping Comparison Sites
Most of them charge money to list products. Here are some major ones to mention:

Shopzilla

Bizrate

Shopping.com

Ciao

Price Savvy

Next Tag

Kelkoo

Price Grabber

Price Runner

Last two months incomes been down by 40%! One of the factors effected my income is change of hosting for my best earning site; it caused the site not working properly for about a month. Then bad economy added up.

How do you survive in bad economy? After giving some thought I went for the basics, cut down expenses. I minimized the marketing for sites that earn less. Then I have some employees I had to let go. Now I am earning close the expenses, although I am still covering some costs from my own pocket. Its time for duck now waiting to get things better.

According to a recent nationwide survey from Guidance, 36% of online shoppers ran into problems with e-commerce sites when buying gifts during this holiday season 2008.

Common problems experienced by people were:

Slow web site : 34%
Crashed web site: 21%
Could not complete purchase: 19%
Site was temporarily down: 16%
Purchase didn’t go through: 10%

Thats a big problem for your e-commerce business

With all the hard work you do to bring in customers to your site who are really willing to make a purchase, these problems could ruin your whole efforts. It ruins not only your branding nut also make you loose money. People have so many choices these days to shop online. Lot of people facing those problems won’t forget these problems, and many of them would find another more stable e-commerce site.

Whats causing it?

It could be for many reasons like:

Bad coding of your website backend

Database not indexed properly

Web Hosting Service can’t handle the load.

Shopping cart not coded properly.

Not all programmers have enough experience code an efficient site; problems like these got lot to do with the coding as well.

If database is not indexed properly, the site gonna be real slow on update/write/read operations, slowing down your website.

If you are on shared hosting and running a high traffic site, you will get in trouble with speed.

If a cart stores images in the database, people adding lot of products on the cart would cause the database respond slower. Image file size is another issue. Lot of people uses way too many images for each products and loads them all at once; thats probably not the best solution for a busy site.

To avoid situations like this, a site can have to be optimized in different levels:

database

shopping cart

image file sizes

number of product images to load on page load.

Its good idea to check the load time on local machine while optimizing the site.

Who is it for?

If you have a website with good number of new visitors you may wanna go for it. For sites with little traffic I would suggest stick with other options. That way chances are good that you at least earn something daily.

What is Dropship?

In usual business environment you have a store or warehouse where you have products, and you sell from there. In dropship you don’t store anything yourself. The vendor stores all the items, when you need any item you order from them and they will ship it for you to your customer or to you.

How its used

Lot of people use the dropship for selling products on EBay. Many have their own website, and sell from there.

What to watch

Most important thing in dropship is return policy. If a customer returns a product, you have to know if the dropship company will take it back or not. If they don’t you will loose that money. Also look at the profit margins you are getting; compare among the dropship companies.

List of US Dropship Companies

Here is a list of companies that offer dropship. Before you sign up with them I would suggest do your research on them.

You may have seen Google AdSense showing PSA or public service ads on your site instead of actual ads by which you get paid. Problem with PSA ads is that you don’t get paid for the clicks on them. This article is my experience with PSA ads.

This is how AdSense ads work
For sites that add AdSense it takes some time for AdSense crawlers crawl all the pages. The ads shown are determined by the page content. If a page showing ad is not on Google AdSense indexed then chances are very high they will show a PSA ad and you won’t get paid for clicks on them. If the page is not indexed then they mark it for crawling. Note that Google AdSense crawlers are different then google.com crawlers.

What can you do?
Generally it takes about 1-2 days to get a site crawled. Just wait until then, you should be receiving actual ads, not PSA ads. Just remember Google is loosing money too showing all the PSA ads, so they will make best efforts showing actual ads as soon as possible.

My Experience

When I started AdSense on webcosmo.com first two days I saw a huge display of PSA ads. I realized this won’t make me enough to pay certain expenses I intend to cover by the ad money. I was seriously thinking of getting rid of AdSense and use some other services. Then I decided to give it some time, without knowing its gonna go away. Things became allright after 2 days. I am reaching my goal with AdSense now. Problem with webcosmo.com was there are more then 50,000 pages. A huge number of pages are added everyday. I am sure it took some time for AdSense crawlers crawl all the pages. If you have less number of pages, you probably gonna have PSA ads for less duration compared to me.

http://www.DailyClicks.biz

http://bux.to/

http://www.clixmania.net

http://hits4pay.com

Caution: Some sites do unethical practices paying people to click ads to earn more. I would highly discourage to do so. However some webmasters use this kind of service to make their stats look good.
