I'm glad I found this place. I recently began leasing a Linux virtual dedicated server from GoDaddy and after transfering a site from the shared hosting account (where it worked fine) to the VDS, I noticed that it stopped writting to a .txt file for the hit counter and also wouldn't allow image uploads through the browser anymore. I went back and forth for days with tech support and the bottom line delivered to me was that my code was wrong. But it wasn't. Like I said, it worked fine on the shared hosting and when I'd tell them that, it would go in one ear and out the other. So it's been 6 days and I want to cancel but I can't get all my money back because that is an option only after 5 days! Now I'm ready to transfer all my domains and hosting somewhere else.

I'm having a similar problem with goDaddy. I would like to be able to write to a file but continually get file permission exceptions. Support tell me that I can only write to /tmp but being in a shared tomcat environment I do not have access to root so cannot access /tmp. I cannot seem to get this across to them. I was then told that I could write to any folder in my account space but this is not the case as the same exceptions occur. Must have had 20 emails from them and all saying something different. I'm now considering transferring my account elsewhere...I've had enough!

Hi Alicia,
I am glad you offering help resolve this. I have found quite a few solutions spending last two days online, checking out all the hosting companies. Currently I am set with http://www.aspnix.com/ for two of my clients, I was setting the hosting for. Both of those clients are currently hosted at GoDaddy and they would move to their new hosting soon.

I also tried OneAndOne.com hosting. Surprisingly their sales person also gave me wrong information. They told me their shared hosting supports Full Trust level, which they really don't. Funny thing is I asked the sales person to make sure that about three times:)

But I certainly do hope that GoDaddy solves this problem. There are many other web developers facing the same problem, as I saw searching for a solution online.
Thanks,
Manik

Sorry you had trouble. It's not clear if you were able to resolve this. I'd really like to offer some assistance. Please email me with the domain name on the account, as well as any other details and I'd be happy to take a look.

If you had your own reseller account, they will assign you an Account Manager (when your sales reach a certain level). You'll get the chance of better customer service. The Account Manager isn't doing customer service so much as business development, but he or she can help cut through the nonsense when you are getting conflicting advice. I prefer to get a reseller account from an existing reseller (price of the account is suprisingly lower!) Here's an article on reselling if you don't already have a reseller account: http://www.downdoggy.com/articles/1-general/15-webmaster-domain.html

If you already have a reseller account, check to see what you have to do to get your own assigned Account Manager for your account :-)
